Baltimore is a city of rowhouses. Federal Hill, Canton, Fells Point, Hampden, Charles Village. A lot of those homes are a century old or more, and they share walls with the neighbors.

Out in Baltimore County, it changes. Towson has older single-family homes, plus apartments and condos near York Road. Catonsville has established neighborhoods off Frederick Road. Parkville and Dundalk have plenty of brick rowhomes and duplexes, and parts of Dundalk sit right on the water.

• Street parking: If your car sits on the street overnight, does your policy include comprehensive coverage?

• Landlords: Renting out a rowhouse? A homeowners policy usually isn't built for that. A landlord policy may be.

• Near the water: Flood insurance is separate from homeowners insurance. If you're close to the water in Dundalk or elsewhere, is it worth a look?
